Portland got a big taste of modern luxury last Thursday night when The Nines hotel was officially revealed. The much anticipated posh yet eco friendly (LEED certified) hotel occupies the top nine floors of the former Meier and Frank department store at Pioneer Place. Very lucky for me, a friend and reader of the The Pickle invited us to the opening bash, which was truly the height of glamour, entertainment and cuisine.
The already acclaimed Urban Farmer restaurant, located in the hotel, provided tasty passed canapes throughout the evening, in addition to individual serving stations featuring Northwest truffles, rock shrimp risotto, artisinal cheeses and petite French macaroons. An absinthe bar, martini ice louge and countless silver trays filled with champagne kept all 1,300 party goers well lubricated as they danced to Portland’s own Pink Martini and watched as a cirque de soleil-esque acrobat twirled from giant balloons in the atrium. I’m looking forward to returning for a full meal at the Urban Farmer soon. The Oregonian has an excellent article in their features section. I’m Also eager for the opening of the hotel’s rooftop bar due to open next spring. To The Nines, indeed!
