I’ve been obsessively making salsa fresca for a month. And I never thought I’d tire of this perfect Mexican snack. It’s the most refreshing combination: lots of diced tomato, a red and yellow bell pepper, minced garlic, jalapeno and white onion, chopped cilantro, lime juice, olive oil, salt and tortilla chips. I even drink the juice at the bottom of the bowl. After loading up on tomatoes at the Hillsdale Farmer’s Market ($1.75 lb) yesterday, it was time for something different, more basic really–thick slices of yellow and red tomatoes sprinkled with good olive oil, salt, pepper and torn basil. So Summer! BLT is next on the list.

Your photo is wonderful. My mouth waters just looking at it. I’m with you, the simple ways of preparing sun ripened tomatoes are the best. I know what I’m having for lunch. I enjoy your blog very much. Thanks.
I posted some tomato love too! In Portland, we really do get such a narrow window.
Nice blog – good to see more Portland people.
Hey Oregon Sistah! Great picture, makes me drool too! I’ve been making everything tomato and zucchini flavored myself lately. Come by and check me out

GO YOU!
Way to work it with the positive feedback. Your photo is indeed gorgeous. So talented, my lou.
I’m makin’ that salsa. Don’t you miss the chips we used to get in Chi-town?
xoxox.
Oh yum! This is one of my favorite things to do with fresh tomatoes. My mouth is watering right now, I’m tempted to go out to the garden and do some night-time harvesting. Great picture too.
Those look incredible! Here in Grenada, all tomatoes are local and fresh, but not so photogenic. Lots of yellow, and the skin is substantial, but the flavor is unmistakably vine-ripened. Yum!
Beautiful photo! I guess I could practically live on different versions of tomato salad. I too drink the juice from the bowl! I’m less embarrassed about it now that I know I’m not the only one
