There’s not much to say about this fig. Just that I thought it was beautiful, plump and fun to crack the tiny seeds with my teeth. I usually slice them in half and eat them with nothing else. Their season is so short, at least not long enough for me to think about incorporating into meals. This one from California looks like a raspberry inside, more sweet and tart than the more common dark mission fig.

Aren’t they gorgeous? And there is something about those seeds (or whatever they are) that is soft, sugary and so appealing. Yes, figs are one beautiful fruit I am really trying to learn how to love.
I wrapped some in serano ham the other day – delicious, then I made some homemade fig newtons – also delicious. Have made fig jam and am always looking for receipes to use figs because once my single bush starts to ripen I get several dozen figs every week.
Beautiful fig, beautiful photo
Wow – great picture! A friend’s mom gave us figs over the weekend too – wrapped in prosciutto with lime juice.
Thank goodness for moms!
